Before accepting an assignment abroad, the employee and family are usually invited to make a pre-visit as a part of the company pre-assignment programme. To make the most of this visit, it is essential to make a thorough need analysis, to establish what is required in alignment with the policy.

During the visit, the assignee gets an introduction of the new country, an area orientation based upon specified requests, information about the recommended domicile areas and previewing of one to three selected properties.

The guided tour may also consist of visiting schools, shops, sport clubs etc. A ”Welcome package” with useful information, living conditions, maps etc. is included.

Advantages: transferee gets an accurate view of the country and should be given enough information to make a well thought-out decision. Knowing what to expect makes it easier to adapt to and prepare for the new environment.
